About Remediating the Rust Belt
Driven by values. Built on purpose.
We believe communities already have most of what they need to solve their own environmental and infrastructure challenges — free organic materials, local talent, and nature’s own systems.
This project exists to share practical knowledge, open-source tools, and proven approaches so ordinary people can shift from expensive Disaster Recovery to proactive Disaster Avoidance.
We cannot eat money.
At the end of the day - it’s the goal that matters …
Make a difference - make your life count - shine your light.
-Christine Pierce
Mission & Values
Shift from waste to resource
Build healthier soil and cleaner water
Create living Eco-Oases that produce food, habitat, and resilience
Train local people (especially students) into future problem-solvers
Lower long-term costs for cities and residents
Protect the land, water, and creatures that share these places with us
We focus on nature-based solutions such as hügelkultur, mycoremediation, living riprap systems, bee habitat, and recycled-glass shoreline restoration — methods that are effective, affordable, and regenerative.
About Christine
Christine created Remediating the Rust Belt to put practical tools into the hands of communities. The work is rooted in continuous improvement, lessons learned, and a deep commitment to doing right by both people and the living world.
The templates and knowledge shared here are offered in a spirit of mutual support: FREE for community use, with a simple fair-share structure when the tools are used for professional compensation or large-scale cost savings initiatives.
Let’s Build Something Better - You don’t need to be an expert to start making a difference in your community - You just need to start.
The knowledge, the templates, and the model are here.
